NO, NO -- I ACTUALLY LIKED THIS ONE!
And still do. Mostly because it
was already looping out of 'heavy rotation' on the AM dial and it was a few years before I
started listening to Cincinnati FM stations (which spent far more time making me want to
vomit every time I heard Zeppelin or Pink Floyd than anything released before 1975).
There's something strange and cool about those southern, mildly progressive
bands -- Head East, these guys, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Dr. Hook -- that, if not
overdone, catches the ear and can even move you, if you're not quite paying
attention. Jackie Blue is
one of the songs I've heard for so long, I don't even remember when I first heard it.
It was released in 1974, when I was nine or ten years old, so it was probably on WKRC when I discovered that the station played pop music at night. Good tune, and I
got lucky enough not to be made sick of it.
What were the odds of that?
